What the research says
Why blue?
In a 2009 study published in Science, researchers at the University of British Columbia found that a blue background helped people on open, creative tasks, like coming up with new uses for everyday objects. Their explanation: we link blue with calm and openness, which makes us more willing to explore.
White lines on blue is also how architects and engineers copied their plans from the 1870s to the mid-20th century. And long before that, draughtsmen in 16th-century Venice were already drawing on blue paper. Blu brings both together: calm to explore, and a page with structure.
